No. I sketch maybe. No I usually write at the couch. Usually when I'm practicing I'll come across something I like and I have a lot of little notes and stuff. Little patterns or something that I find intriguing. And then I'll take that to the keyboard and see where we can go harmonically with it, I mean if it's worthy of pursuit. And then it might just sit there for a while. And then when I do get ready to write I write at the computer. That way I can hear everything. But the piece is usually finished. I should say I orchestrate at the computer. I have a pretty good idea of how the piece is going to go. Occasionally I'll have to change or re-write, but usually it's finished in my head before I even sit down at the computer. But it's a lot of time with the horn and then at the keyboard and noodeling, and a long gestation period.
