Well usually it depended. Sometimes you would have to read, or maybe the singer didn't have any music. So the piano player would know -- maybe the piano player would be somebody that he knew and had rehearsed with, he would know what the chords was but it would be a standard tune, or either you would learn it right away. And you would have to be able to do that to be able to do the demo date. But those things usually worked out. And a lot of times with demo dates, you didn't have a necessarily be a reader all the time, it just depended on what was needed. Because they might want somebody to play a great solo behind a person or just somebody to put background music or play whatever parts. Each demo called for a different thing. But you would get to know somebody who did a lot of demo dates, so they would put you on demo dates. So you would know two or three people so you could make some good money, pay the rent and buy... you know. So it was a way of making a living and being in music and getting the opportunity to do other things.
