It sounds so vain to refer to yourself that way. But I must say I was very unusual. And I had the good fortune to be born to incredible parents. They were scholars. And neither of them were musicians. My father was an attorney and my mother was a school teacher that could teach everything but music. But they recognized that a three year old child who could go to the piano and copy anything heard, in a very fundamental way, and I'd come home and imitate snatches of phrases that I'd heard, imprinted on me you know. So they, as soon as I was able to understand they took me to our hometown university. That was in Vincennes, Indiana. They have a very nice little community college there. And the head of the piano department accepted me as his student.
