I think of a melody, don't tell anybody that it isn't copyrighted. I think of a melody similar to that but it's very bad for me to do that because if I have a bass player that can hear me and follow me, practically all night long, I'll start to compose. It's bad that I do things like that, but now what I do, I'll start a little thing, a little melody and get a copyright and then work from that. That blocks me a little bit. It doesn't really flow as freely as something, you know, like the "Zodiac Suite" when I did that, I wrote two of them and I couldn't write any more. The thing I was telling you about, that sometimes arrangers run dry. I was on WNEW introducing them in one week and Canada Lee was with me a couple of times. You know what happened? I couldn't write any more so I had Nola to record my program and the rest of the suite, I composed them while I was playing. I'm at my best composing that way.
