I went through Rome but I had been to Rome -yes, I think that's when we put on the first jazz mass but it didn't really go through. They had newspapers out from everywhere, from all other countries and everywhere else, because there had never been a jazz mass in Rome. What they did, what really stopped it, the Italians like to be told what they're going to do but everybody was afraid to tell them because it would have taken them another year to say yes. So they said, well, let's do it fast. It would have gone through but the girl at the Vatican radio caught us or played it smart. She came in one afternoon while we were rehearsing and said, "Guess what, I just broadcast the mass right on the lap of the Pope. " The Pope listened to the radio at certain times. Everybody said, "Oh, my goodness, oh, oh. " And so they told the Cardinal not to do it. Yes, because they didn't like people coming to their country like that, doing things. So it was done as a concert after the mass.
