She was wonderful. I loved her. I just wished that so many of my friends didn't have such a hard time. If I had a lot of money, I'd give it all away to musicians, if you  can find them nowadays, and I'm sure you can. I thought Wynton was incredible on The Shadow of Your Smile. How beautiful. That really was something. And what about Johnny Mandel? Unbelievable. I knew him when he was with the Basie band. We used to call him Johnny MAN-dul. Lovely man. What a heart. What ears. Boy.
