I think some of that is being lost. Just like you said, this one example of this teacher who didn't teach them how to swing. They didn't teach them the essence of the music. They just taught them what the notes would sound like if they were played strict, without any sense of interpretation or with any background or fleshing out the music. This is something I've noticed, and I was wondering if this is something you've noticed as well.
