Richard Habersham-Bey: My interest [in jazz] grew when I came back to New York. When I came back my brothers and I got involved with the cabaret business. When I came back I went into the trucking business, left that and went into the furniture business. Then my brother started talking about jazz and we started hearing all these big names: Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Thelonious Monk and all these big names. I began to like [jazz] and married a girl – my first wife – whose sister was into the jazz cabaret business, she was working at one of the jazz places, The Continental, on Nostrand Avenue and I started going to these places with my wife to be at that time.
