‡ Mensah Wali: It wasn’t very scientific it was based on personal relationships at first. We had a house that we established for African people, African American people. The title of it was “‡ The East, a cultural and education center for people of African descent.” By that it literally meant no white folks allowed. So that was the policy and we just reached out to people that we knew. And as popularity grew then other people became interested in wanting to perform there.
