↓[64] ‡ MensahWali: I met my wife, who is from here, in ’87 in Philadelphia at a conference of festival organizers; she was doing Harambee Black Arts Festival in Pittsburgh and her crew came to Philly and myself and a crew from ‡ Brooklyn came to that conference. The thing they needed most at that festival [Harambee] was bigger name artists, so that’s how we began communicating and we got closer over the years. We were seeing each other from around ’88 or so and I worked for the Board of Education and she worked for the University of Pittsburgh and neither one of us was ready to retire so we had a commuting relationship. In 2005 I retired from the Board of Education andmoved [to Pittsburgh].
