Shorty McConnell McConnell, playing trumpet. On bass was - oh boy. I forget. I ccould see him. The bass player, he used to go to the <span class="otherMatch" rel="popover" id="other_1344_590106">Catholic Church</span>, and Shorty McConnell McConnell. Shorty McConnell used to hit all the high notes with <span class="fullMatch" id="match_221">Billy Eckstine</span> and <span class="fullMatch" id="match_222">Earl Hines</span>. Then he had sort of lost his chops. It was there, but it wasn't the same as it used to be. They used to go to church a lot, the bass player - Briscoe - Ted Briscoe, from Washington, D.C., and Lester   Young nicknamed them the Religious Brothers. He had a nickname for everybody. He'd say, "You two are Religious Brothers. "
