Nobody had any money and it was the cheapest way to have a date. You'd go out to take your girl to the dance and have a little flask on your hip, you know, a jug, and for seventy-five cents, that's all it cost to go in and dance for the evening. Of course the money is completely different today. But in those days, kids in school didn't have any cash. And so that was the thing to do was to go out and dance. It was very exciting in those days. The bands were good and there were thousands of them on the road playing in these dance halls, which are all torn down now. But every amusement park had a big ballroom, and every hotel, and of course the theaters featured bands that played on the stage and accompanied all the acts that would come like SeƱor Owensis and the dog acts and the jugglers, and dance teams, and four or five different acts would go on in front of the band. The band would play all the music. They called those "presentation houses" didn't they, Ralph? That was before Ralph's time.
