Well you just do something, you know it's like anything else you do, the more you live, the more experience you get and the more you know what's going on hopefully. And that's what that stuff was all about. They weren't good bands, but they were bands. And I really feel sorry for the young people now as far as that goes. Because there is no warm-  up place like that. There's no place to get that experience you know. And you can't get out of high school and go straight with Count Basie's band.
